Itinerary and highlights
Hike out to the famous Fire Wave, a swirling sandstone formation striped in red, orange, and white that looks like a frozen wave of fire. Your guide leads the short scenic trail and shares great spots for photos of this iconic Valley of Fire landmark.
Stop to see Elephant Rock, a natural arch of red sandstone eroded into the unmistakable shape of an elephant with its trunk reaching to the ground. It’s one of the most recognizable and photogenic formations in the park.
Take in the sweeping panorama at Rainbow Vista, a viewpoint surrounded by multicolored sandstone hills in shades of pink, lavender, cream, and red. It’s a favorite scenic overlook and a fantastic spot for photos of the park’s vivid geology.
Visit Atlatl Rock to see remarkably preserved ancient petroglyphs carved into the desert varnish by the Ancestral Puebloan people over 2,000 years ago. A short stairway leads up to the panel, where your guide explains the meaning behind these fascinating rock art symbols.
